New on the Market in Atlanta: Southern Accents Top 10 Kitchen

When walking my dog this week, I was intrigued to see that a home I have long admired was just put on the market. The home is in one of the most beautiful parts of Atlanta, in the heart of Buckhead. Built only a few years ago (the architects were top Atlanta firm Pak-Heydt), the style is described as 'Dutch Colonial'. I love it when a beautiful home is listed for sale, because then I get to see what the home looks like on the inside. Would the interior of this particular home match the beauty and charm of the exterior? When I returned home I immediately looked at the real estate listing, and was amazed to see magazine worthy picture after picture of beautifully designed interiors.

Here is a picture of the kitchen, from the real estate listing. It looked somewhat familiar to me. I read the text of the listing, and saw that the kitchen has been featured in Southern Accents. I immediately recognized it from the Southern Accents 'Top 10 Kitchens' feature. There are some real beauties among the Southern Accents kitchen selections, and the kitchen from this home is one of my favorites. The kitchen is elegant without being too dressy, and I love the soft blue color on the walls, the beams on the ceilings, and just the right mix of windows and cabinetry. The upholstered chairs are covered in outdoor fabric for easy clean up, making them a very family friendly. The interior design is by Savannah designer Gwyn Duggan.

Here is the picture from the Southern Accents website. It is styled a bit differently; a bowl of apples is on the table (the bowl is on the island in the real estate picture), the dishes in the cabinets are arranged differently, and a smaller arrangements of hydrangeas are on the island, not the table. Tomatoes are by the sink instead of hydrangeas.

So let's take a look at the rest of the house. A side view captures the sheer size of the home. It is sited on a corner lot, and the street slopes down. The garages can be seen on the ground floor, to the left of the chimney. According to the tax records, the home was built in 2006 and has over 6,000 square feet. I always admire homes that look small from the outside, but are actually quite large (and I admire architects who can achieve this vision).

The front hall features a beautiful antique mirror and a lantern from the superb Atlanta lighting store Edgar-Reeves.

Given my recent interest in clocks, I noticed the painted clock on the landing right away. I love the look of a bench and a lantern in a entry too. A view of the back, from the real estate listing. The bay window under the balcony looks like it might be the sitting area off the kitchen, which would mean that the three windows to the right are over the sink in the kitchen.

For more information on the home, please see the real estate listing. It is priced at $3,395,000, which I think is an incredible price given the location, the age of the home, the level of detail, and the top tier architects used to design the house.

So, what do you think? I think it is a beautiful house, although I can't get a feel for the floorplan (maybe one of you can guess how this house flows). My favorite room is the kitchen - no surprise given that it received top 10 honors from Southern Accents!
