I was able to get a sneak peek of the the much anticipated Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Southeastern Showhouse, and it is truly amazing. Many of the most talented designers from the Southeast are represented, including some of my long time favorites - Suzanne Kasler, Bob Brown, Phoebe Howard, and Melanie Turner. Over 30 designers were involved, so the list is long! Today is Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday. To commemorate the day, I thought it would be interesting to show one of the houses that the Queen herself owns (versus the ones that are owned by the Crown) - Sandringham House.

When we decided to build a house, my husband requested that I space out the interior design over a 3-5 year time frame. I have definitely honored that request - we have been in the house for 4 1/2 years, and we are still working on the interiors (although after working on the living room and dining room this year, things feel more complete). Spring is here, and so is the house selling season in Atlanta! As I drive around town, I see for sale signs everywhere. It seems as if people who have held off on listing their houses over the past few years are taking advantage of Atlanta’s robust real estate market, and many houses I have admired from afar can now be see online.
One house in particular caught my eye this week. I never really paid much attention to mirrored furniture until a beautiful mirrored chest was brought to my house during the recent living room and dining room install. It was a floor model that was brought as an option for a vestibule near the master bedroom. It wasn’t in the best of shape, but the idea was to see how it looked and order a new one if it worked well. Surprisingly, I liked it. My favorite Atlanta art event is going on this week, February 1-6. The Spotlight on Art Artists Market is my ideal kind of place - thousands of paintings and works from hundreds of artists, all under one roof, in a very relaxed atmosphere. Virtually every genre is represented. This year, over 350 artists are participating; there are many established gallery artists, as well Things That Inspirehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04405995431610377305noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3422669494853882483.post-79377967549229366812015-05-20T07:15:00.000-04:002015-05-20T07:15:20.430-04:00Finally finishing the living room decor
It’s hard to believe we have been in our “new” house for three and a half years now! We have slowly but surely worked on the décor since we moved in, with a big project every year. Now, we are finally ready to finish the main floor, including the central room in the house, the living room.
I wanted a living room that was at the heart of the house, not tucked to the side. Several years ago, I noticed a house come on the market that was truly exceptional. The architecture, landscape, and interior design were all exquisitely done, and had a very special quality. I have been reading about a trend for shutter-free houses in both new houses and renovations – perhaps a way to make a house look more streamlined and modern. However, I have a love for shutters. I have a fondness for black shutters in particular, combined with a white house. There is something so classic and American about it – no matter what the architectural style (although a classic Things That Inspirehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04405995431610377305noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3422669494853882483.post-15174115412668109082014-10-17T08:03:00.000-04:002014-11-20T09:51:34.900-05:00Favorite architectural feature: Porte cochere
An architectural feature that I see occasionally in Atlanta is a porte cochere, and whenever I do, I always take note. I was looking for a picture on Pinterest this week, and noticed that I had quite a few pictures of living rooms with benches and daybeds in them (and the occasional chaise). Not just a bench against a wall, but a bench or daybed as a counterpoint to a sofa, something that is designed to be used as a key piece of seating.

As I was walking my dog yesterday, and posting a few pictures on instagram, I realized that I take quite a few pictures of entry gates! Gates are a common feature on many of the large (1 acre plus) lots in Buckhead, and the style of the entry gates often reflect the style of the architecture.
